How we write these guides

Every guide is written by the BuildMan team — a Toronto home builder since 2008 that now also runs a flat-rate handyman service — and is based on the work we do every week in GTA homes. We explain what drives cost and quality, where permits and licensed trades are required, and the mistakes we see homeowners pay to fix.

  • Cost ranges are typical, not quotes. Prices are realistic all-in ranges for GTA projects in 2026. Every renovation is different, so we give a fixed-price quote only after seeing the space.
  • Rules are cited at the source. Where a permit, the Ontario Building Code or a licensed trade is involved, we link to the City of Toronto, the Electrical Safety Authority or other official bodies, and tell you to confirm details for your property.
  • Kept current. Guides are reviewed regularly, and each one shows when it was last updated.
