Buying the device is the easy part. We handle the tricky bit: safe wiring (including the C-wire a smart thermostat needs), mounting, app setup and a working demo before we leave.
Smart devices promise five-minute installs and rarely deliver. Smart thermostats often need a C-wire your old wiring doesn't have; video doorbells need the right transformer voltage; and every device has to be paired, updated and connected to the right network. A botched thermostat install can even leave your furnace or A/C not working.
Our builder-trained technicians install the hardware safely, solve the wiring gotchas, and don't leave until the app works and you've seen it in action. For anything beyond a handyman's scope we'll tell you and refer a licensed electrician — electrical work in Ontario is regulated by the Electrical Safety Authority.

Most smart devices fail at the wiring, not the app. Before we mount anything, we open the existing thermostat, doorbell or switch box and check what is actually there, because Toronto's housing stock ranges from century homes with decades of patched wiring to new condos with building-specific HVAC controls.
Many older furnaces in Toronto houses were wired with only two or three thermostat conductors and no common (C) wire. Smart thermostats need steady power, so we either use a spare conductor in the cable, connect it at the furnace control board, or install the power adapter the manufacturer supplies. Condos are different: many use fan-coil units or electric baseboards. Baseboard heaters run on line voltage and need a thermostat built for that, and some fan-coil systems are only compatible with specific models, so we confirm compatibility before you buy.
A wired doorbell needs a transformer that meets the device's voltage rating, and older chime transformers often fall short, which causes rebooting and dropped video. We check the transformer, add the chime adapter where required, and mount on brick or siding with the correct wedge so the camera sees faces, not the porch ceiling.
Swapping a switch or thermostat on existing wiring is within our scope. If a device needs a new circuit, a new box run or panel work, we coordinate a licensed electrician under Electrical Safety Authority rules.
